Juan Pérez Torres

Juan P. Torres is professor at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (www.upc.edu) and Group Leader of the Quantum Engineering of light group at ICFO-Institut de Ciencies Fotoniques (www.icfo.eu). His research interest covers a diffuse area between Quantum Optics, Nonlinear Optics and Linear Optics. It is also a combination of basic science and photonics engineering, where he considers fundamental questions about quantum theory and the nature of reality, and contributes to the design of new solutions to new and old problems. Torres research combines theory and experiments. In the lab they generate, manipulate, control and detect streams of photons under many different circumstances, from beams of light that contain one photon (single-photon beams) or two entangled photons (quantum entanglement), to intense beams of light that show wave-fronts with engineered shapes (structured light). He usually works with a bunch of PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, undergraduate and Master students. He has supervised 12 PhD thesis up to 2023. A great part of the research and results obtained, published in more than 160 papers in international scientific journals, constitutes the core of the PhD thesis of the students. He keeps collaborations with many scientists from all over the world.
