Abstract:

Seminar 1. Early Visual Processing

In this seminar, early visual processing will be presented, considering the mechanisms that account for some basic attributes of the retinal image, such as edge detection or color perception. Among other topics, the agenda will include photoreception, receptive fields, spectral sensitivity of rods and cones, trichromatic color vision model, opponent color and visual channels.

Seminar 2. Visual Psychophysics & Circadian Light

In this seminar, the psychophysical methods to assess some visual functions  will be introduced, such as contrast sensitivity and reaction time, the threshold theory and psychophysical methods used for the determination of V(λ) like the minimum distinct boundary and the heterochromatic flicker photometry. Finally, we introduce the concepts of melanopic irradiation and circadian light as tools for the stimulation of the non-visual pathway and its effects on people's well-being, mood and alertness.
