ABSTRACT: The measurement of skin features is a necessary procedure in the Skin Prick Test (SPT), which is the standard method for the diagnosis of allergies. However, the conventional assessment of the SPT is cumbersome and prone to inter- and intra-observer variations. Recently, Three-dimensional (3D) scanning technology promises the best results in terms of accuracy, fast acquisition, and processing. In this work, we present a wide-field 3D imaging system for the 3D reconstruction of the SPT, and we propose an automated method for the measurement of 3D skin features based on advanced data processing. Through experimental results, we show that the proposed method provides accurate and reliable measurements.
Jesús Pineda is a research assistant in the Laboratory of Optics and Image Processing (OPI-Lab) at Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar (Cartagena, Colombia), where he received his B.Eng. in Mechatronics Engineering (Cum Laude), and he is pursuing a Master's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. His research interests include Optics, Medical and Biomedical Image Processing, 3D Reconstruction, and Optical Metrology. Currently, Jesús is conducting a research stay partially funded by the Center for Cooperation and Development (CCD) of the UPC.
