Abstract: This presentation will give you an overview of the technology used nowadays in the field of refractive and cataract surgery. In the last 20 years, laser technology (Gas, solid state, fiber) and optical measurement (OCT, Wavefront) have revolutionized the ophthalmologic field. The surgeon practice evolved into a safer and more accurate surgery which provides better patient outcomes. Ophthalmology is in constant needs of innovation supported by a market growth of two digits YOY mainly due to population aging. In the US, it is estimated that more than half of the population needs some form of vision correction (source: United States Census Bureau). The Cataract surgery lasers markets at $572 million in 2012 is anticipated to reach $1.1 billion by 2013 and forecast to reach $2.4 billion dollars by 2019 (source: wintergreen research report July 2013).
