Abstract: This talk will go over the role that refraction plays on research and industry. It is a very active field within vision science that involves Physicists, Optometrists, Engineers and Ophthalmologists, among others. One part of this presentation will be devoted to review basic concepts of ocular refraction such as its definition and measurement, including the state-of-the-art of subjective, objective and automated refraction methods and ophthalmic devices. Then, some of the new lines of research that have recently shown up will be briefly mentioned and finally, we will conclude this talk highlighting the concept of myopia and its numerous health-related implications that have been estimated for the forthcoming years.
